Celebrate National Make a Dog’s Day with LA Animal Services

Los Angeles, October 22, 2020 — Today is National Make a Dog’s Day, and what better way to celebrate than by adopting or fostering a canine from LA Animal Services? October is also Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, making it the perfect time to add a new furry friend to your family! National Make a Dog’s Day was established to give dogs the best day of their lives, and to encourage adopting a shelter pet.

In celebration of National Make a Dog’s Day, we’re also encouraging dog lovers who have already adopted or fostered from LA Animal Services to share a photo or video of their best friend enjoying their day on social media using the hashtags #MakeaDogsDay #LAcitypets #LAanimalservices and tagging us! We’re also always looking for stories, like Buddy, to share and be featured on our social media accounts, so we encourage you to submit your story and photos to us by clicking here

Adopt a pet from one of our Centers:

  • Call 888-452-7381 with the Animal ID number or A# (example: A1234567).

  • LA Animal Services will share all the information available on that animal.

  • If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LA Animal Services will take your information and schedule a pick-up appointment.

  • During the appointment, staff will introduce you to your selected animal.

  • Please be advised that due to City order in response to COVID-19, no more than 10 people, which include staff are permitted in our facility at a time.

  • To comply with social distancing requirements, we will be scheduling appointments daily at our four LA Animal Services Centers from 11am to 4pm.
Adopt a pet who is currently in foster care:

  • Call 888-452-7381 with the Animal ID number or A# number (example: A1234567)

  • An LA Animal Services staff member will arrange for a meeting at the designated Animal Services Center or a virtual (video) meeting with the interested party (person interested in adopting) and the foster family of the animal in question, where the potential adopter can find out more about the animal, and see how the pet interacts with the foster family.

  • If the interested party would like to proceed with the adoption, an LA Animal Services staff member will facilitate the adoption process, which includes completing all the necessary adoption paperwork, collection of adoption fees, and then schedule an in-person appointment for the interested party to come into the designated Animal Services Center to meet and pick-up their new animal companion.
Adopt a pet in our Home To Home™ program

With the recent launch of the Home To Home™ program, LA Animal Services gives pet owners who can no longer keep their pet the opportunity to find new, loving homes without having to surrender them to the shelter by posting their pet on LAanimalservices.home-home.org
Through Home To Home™, pets can go from their current home right into another. The platform also offers potential new owners the opportunity to communicate directly with the current owners to get firsthand information about the companion animal they are interested in adopting.
