How YOU can Make a Difference in
Pets’ Lives During COVID 19

Los Angeles, March 27, 2020During this COVID-19 pandemic, LA Animal Services remains committed to the safety, health, and well-being of the animals in our care. In response to the inquiries from animal-loving Angelenos who want to help but are unable to foster or adopt a pet, making or helping others make a donation is another way to show your support while ensuring you are Safer at Home.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of response we have received from residents wanting to foster or adopt our amazing animals,” said Brenda Barnette, General Manager for LA Animal Services. “In addition to fostering or adopting a pet, there are other ways to help us to ensure valuable resources are available as we continue to care for our shelter guests and the community we serve.”

Wish Lists

There are many items in our Wish Lists, from supplies we can provide community members who are caring for baby kittens, supplies for enrichment for shelter dogs (Boredom Busters) such as creating “pupsicles,” and filling Kong toys with treats. You can view our Wish Lists by clicking here.

Kuranda Beds

Medium and large dogs housed in our Animal Services Centers sleep on Kuranda Beds, which are elevated, cot-style beds that are chew-proof. Kuranda Beds are comfortable, easy to clean, and made in the USA. You may order Kuranda Beds online at
http://www.laanimalservices.com/donate/donate-a-kuranda-bed and have the beds delivered directly to any of our six Animal Services Centers. Tell your friends and have a virtual contest to see who can get the most friends to buy a pup a bed.

Pet Food

Our commitment to life-saving and public safety extends beyond our Animal Services Centers and also includes the people and neighborhoods in our City who may need help caring for their pets, so we are creating a pet food drive to establish a Community Pet Food Pantry to ensure there is food available to assist owners who need help feeding their animal companions. The Community Pet Food Pantry will be located at two of our Animal Services Centers.

Unopened bags and canned pet food donations may be dropped off at the following two locations:

East Valley Animal Services Center
14409 Vanowen St
Van Nuys, CA 91405
888-452-7381

South Los Angeles/Chesterfield Square
1850 W. 60th St
Los Angeles, CA 90047
888-452-7381

We cannot accept opened bags of food. We will announce the Community Pet Food Pantry Grand Opening as soon as we have a supply of pet foods to make available to residents needing assistance.

Other Donation Items

Our six LA Animal Services Centers throughout Los Angeles are always grateful to receive any extra pet supplies you would like to donate, from toys, bowls, carriers, and washable beds. We also accept towels and blankets. You can view our complete Wish List by clicking here.

Monetary Donations

LA Animal Services is always grateful for monetary donations to the Animal Welfare Trust Fund (AWTF) or the Spay/Neuter Trust Fund (ASF). Donations are tax-deductible.

In the past, donations to the AWTF have been used to purchase x-ray equipment and blood chemistry machines for each of our Animal Services Centers. We have also used donations to have artificial grass put in our Centers’ play yards, have awnings installed above the dog runs, provide training on the best practices in animal welfare for our staff, purchase critical medical supplies, and much more. The donations to the AWTF cannot be used for administration costs or staffing.

Donations to the Spay/Neuter Trust Fund are used to insure that people in our community are able to have their dogs, cats, and bunnies spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted litters. FREE vouchers are available online or at each of our six Animal Services Centers for Los Angeles City residents.

You can donate to either of these funds online by clicking here.

Please follow us on social media via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for updates. Thank you for the ongoing support we continue to receive from our animal-loving community.
