New Shelter Shop in Century City Marks Return to Los Angeles

Los Angeles, January 15, 2020 –L.A. Love & Leashes (LALoveandLeashes.com/@LALoveLeashes), the country’s first and only public/private shelter adoption shop, is opening a new location in the high-profile, pet-friendly Westfield Century City Mall. Established in 2012 in partnership with LA Animal Services, L.A. Love & Leashes is 100% dedicated to helping animals still living in Los Angeles’ six animal services centers find new homes. The dogs and cats will be brought to the new adoption center from the shelter each day, and those that don’t get adopted will return to the shelter each night until we find them a home of their own. The L.A. Love & Leashes format provides a warm and calming environment for shelter animals’ true personalities to emerge, and offers a more fun and engaging way for people to meet their new best friend.

“L.A. Love & Leashes started as a way to showcase shelter pets in a different, more homelike setting. The animals are engaged and less anxious, and potential adopters have an easier time connecting with the dogs and cats,” said John Mass, Board President, L.A. Love & Leashes. “Having the opportunity to move our facility from Santa Monica back to L.A., our city partner, is a gift. We are so grateful for the generosity and support of Westfield and its commitment to the needy animals of Los Angeles. We also are very excited to be situated right near Healthy Spot, one of our earliest and most generous supporters and business resources.”

“Los Angeles sets the highest possible standard for animal welfare – and that means striving to ensure every pet has a home where they are loved and cared for,” said Mayor Garcetti. “L.A. Love & Leashes has been an extraordinary partner in our work to save the lives of animals in need, and I look forward to continuing our work to raise the bar for animal welfare and make L.A. a No-Kill city.”

To date, L.A. Love & Leashes has found new homes for over 3,300 dogs and cats, and will have the opportunity to showcase and rehome even more animals with the millions of people who visit Westfield Century City annually.

“Collaborating with L.A. Love & Leashes in this amazing space provides us with a new opportunity to engage with animal-loving Angelenos to showcase our fantastic dogs and cats available for adoption,” said Brenda Barnette, LA Animal Services General Manager.
