LA Animal Services’ Boredom Busters Program Continues to Help Enrich the Lives of
Animals in our Care.
The Boredom Busters program has seen successful results in LA Animal Services Centers, and continues to provide enriching activities for companion animals in our centers.
Los Angeles, November 13, 2019 – Last week the Boredom Busters Program launched in our West LA Animal Services Center, which makes it the latest center to implement the series of enrichment activities for companion animals within LA Animal Services. The program is designed to reduce stress and improve the well-being of these adoptable pets, by providing physical and mental stimulation, encouraging species-typical behaviors, and enabling animals to better engage with their surroundings.
The “Pilot Program” launched during the latter half of 2018, thanks to a grant from Maddie’s Fund® which was obtained from LA Animal Services volunteer India Griffin. The pilot program ran for four months and featured enriching activities such as Feeling a Little Bubbly (blowing bubbles for dogs to pop), Storytime (reading to dogs in their kennel) and Pupsicles and Melt-away Glaciers (creating frozen treats for dogs that can be layered with different types of yummy goodies), to name a few.
Since it’s inception the Boredom Busters Program has been a popular initiative with staff, volunteers, and the companion animals in our care.
