LA Animal Services Offers Reduced Pet Adoption Fees for Thanksgiving Weekend

Los Angeles, November 26, 2019 – This Thanksgiving weekend could be the perfect time to visit your local animal services center and fall in love with a furry friend. LA Animal Services is offering reduced and waived adoption fees on cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies November 29th through December 1st. The West Valley, East Valley, North Central, Chesterfield Square, Harbor, and West LA Animal Services Centers have adoptable pets that would love to spend the holiday weekend getting to know their new families and homes.
Adoption fees include the pet’s vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and microchip. While dog adoption fees are reduced, there will be a $20 dog license fee applied for LA City residents. What better way to give thanks than to give an orphaned pet a home? You’ll be repaid with unconditional love and laughs for years to come!
Additionally, Thanksgiving is a special holiday that brings together family and friends, but it also can carry some hazards for pets. Please check out the following tips to help keep furry friends safe:
- Keep the feast away from pets. Sharing the family feast with your pets can be harmful. Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest, especially bones. If they eat something they shouldn’t have eaten, call your local veterinary emergency clinic IMMEDIATELY. Warning signs include: change in behaviors, depression, pain, vomiting, or diarrhea.
- Consider the size of your pets. When giving pets treats, consider the relative size of their body compared to yours. If you weigh 150 pounds and your dog weighs 25 pounds that makes them only 1/6th of your total weight. If you visualize yourself as a whole pie, comparatively your dog is only one slice of pie. Consequently, sharing an unfinished plate that still holds a generous serving of mashed potatoes with gravy, a few bites of turkey and a small slice of pumpkin pie with your best friend can make them feel miserable.
- Buy special holiday treats. If you want your pets to enjoy the holiday, stop by a pet food store and purchase some new dog biscuits or cat treats; then reduce the amount of their regular meal to accommodate the treats they will be getting throughout the day. - Foster or adopt an animal companion. If you are planning a quiet holiday at home without a lot of company and confusion, and you don’t already have a dog or cat to share your life with, this could be the perfect time to visit one of our six Los Angeles Animal Services Centers and fall in love with your new best friend. You can get them settled in while you have a couple of days off work.
