Take a Walk on the Wild Side
LA Animal Services to Host Educational Wildlife Workshops
LA Animal Services hosts wildlife workshops for the community starting at the City Animal Shelters throughout Los Angeles. Wildlife staff specialists share educational information with residents on how to handle wild animal situations they may encounter in their neighborhood and help address concerns.
Native wildlife live throughout the Los Angeles area and can usually be seen year round. Normally, native wildlife pose no threat to humans and keep their distance. However, if they have access to food, water and cover, these animals may continue to return to certain areas and begin to lose their fear of humans— which can potentially lead to them becoming too comfortable.
The LA Animal Services Wildlife Division works to aid City residents in rectifying human-wildlife conflicts and some of the uneasiness they may face with these animals in their community. The program provides on-site evaluations, education on methods of exclusion, deterrents and discouragement of wildlife forays into urban neighborhoods. Native wildlife is common and an important, integral part of the ecosystem and circle of life. Mindful consideration of precautions and basic knowledge of wild animal behavior can create a manageable co-habitation between the community and local wildlife.
Residents will learn all of this and more at the presentations. The workshops will be held at the shelters on the following dates:
