Licensed LA City Dogs get a FREE Ride Home!

Thanks to a generous grant from Maddie’s Fund, lost dogs that have a current license will get a free ride back home.

Los Angeles, June 13, 2019 – Lost dogs picked up by LA City Animal Control Officers or turned in to one of our six City Animal Services Centers will get a “Free Ride Home” while funding lasts. The ride back home is free – the $47 redemption fee will be waived for first time lost dogs. Dogs who are brought to our Animal Care Centers will also get a free ride home if they are wearing a current City dog tag if the dog’s owners have successfully been contacted.

LA Animal Services received an innovation grant of $5,000 from Maddie’s Fund®, a national family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals, to educate and incentivize LA City residents on the importance of licensing your dog.

“Your dog may not be able to drive, but he does need a license!” said Brenda Barnette, LA Animal Services General Manager. “We want dog owners to license their dogs. Not only is having a current dog license the law, it could be the safety net to get your best friend home if he gets lost.”

If your dog is already licensed, make sure their collar has the LA City ID tag affixed, and if your pet has been microchipped, make sure the microchip has up to date contact information and current residence.
