URGENT: Kittens & Friendly Adult Cats are Flooding LA Animal Services Centers
These innocent cats and kittens need YOU and they need you NOW!
Los Angeles, July 8, 2019 – This year LA Animal Services Centers took in 7002 cats and kittens in May and June alone. At the end of June, our Year to Date (YTD) kitten intake was up 20%, and cat intake was up 15%. We are struggling to keep up with limited space.
We will be participating in upcoming events and promotions with the Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation, Best Friends and Petco. Thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA, all cat adoption fees are waived.
We will continue to brainstorm to do our very best to find positive outcomes for the animals in our care. What we really need right now is for cat-loving Angelenos to foster or adopt now more than ever!
“Our amazing foster volunteers provide a place for kittens or cats to stay and gives them the care they need to thrive,” said Brenda Barnette, LA Animal Services General Manager. “By opening your home to an animal in need, you are preparing a pet for adoption into a home of their own as well as directly saving lives of animals in our crowded centers”.
If you are available for a couple weeks or a month, please help some orphaned kittens. Foster volunteers are life savers! To volunteer to foster, print your application at http://bit.ly/LAASFostering or go to your nearest animal services center and ask for a Foster Volunteer application. Please drop off your completed form to your nearest center as soon as possible. You can pick up a pet to foster right away.
If you have been thinking about adopting a cat or kitten, the selection has never been better! And, thanks to the ASPCA, the adoption fee will be waived!
All six LA City Animal Services Centers are open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please visit us this weekend. Perhaps you will fall in love. You will be repaid with a life-time of purrs and snuggles!
Los Angeles Department of Animal Services is one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the United States with six services centers serving approximately 60,000 animals annually and responding to 20,000 emergency calls involving an animal or person in danger. LA Animal Services promotes and protects the health, safety and welfare of animals and people.
